Remembering Nine Eleven

Today marks the tenth year anniversary of September Eleventh, 2001, the now infamous day of complete and utter tragedy.

Nine Eleven means something different to each one of us, whether it effects us deeply, or is just something thats there, a slight shadow over an otherwise normal day.
Although some might argue that this post has no place on a blog dedicated specifically to "fashion", I believe those people would be wrong. Some people deal with horror by writing a book. Others by wasting away their lives, forever awash in their own guilt and self pity. We are the few who experience horror, and then convert it to a suit of mournful blue, a tie in patriotic colors, a pair of shoes that reflect how we feel.

Fashion is nothing if we do not take into account the happening around us. If we remain blind and ignorant to the world, wrapped up in double breasted suits with our collars folded upwards, eyes averted, then we will forever remain ignorant, completely oblivious to the world.

The terrible tragedy of nine eleven transcends us, dwarfs our puny lives, and miniscule problems. I worry about what tie to wear in the morning, yet the parents of firefighters and policemen worldwide, wonder if their child will make it home alive, or if today they will finally get the phone call they have been dreading for as long as they can remember. How do they cope?

In all the chaos of fashion week, it is easy to forget what happened those ten years ago. I would like to implore all of us, those who lost someone in Nine Eleven, and even those who didn't: take a minute out of your day to reconcile with the world. Lift your head out of the trenches and observe the world, the life you live, your community, and your family. Appreciate what you have, and above all be grateful towards those who sacrificed it all so that we would live another day in glorious, beautiful freedom.

God Bless America
